How to change the name of a project’s root directory in Android Studio- 0.9.9.I read the other solution here but nothing works for me. I can change/refactor the package name but not the name of the root directory .I found another solution here, which is to change the name in .idea/.name file, which didnt work. After I changed name, I tried cleaning, rebuilding etc but nothing reflected the changes in android studio. There is no REFACTOR option for “PROJECT NAME/ROOT DIRECTORY NAME”, many people here confused the module name with project name/root directory name.
Answers:
You can change the directory name and reimport the project as @user3106978 commented.
You can also change the name of the project in the Android Studio project structure by editing some files :
- Change the project name in
.idea/.name
- Rename the
[Name].iml
file in the project root directory - Change the reference to this iml file in
.ideamodules.xml
Answers:
- Close android studio
- Change project root directory name
- Open android studio
- Open the project(not from local history but by browsing to it)
Worked for me @ Studio 2.1.3

Can’t understand why refactoring is not working..
Rename folder and then respective files

Answers:
The easiest way I have found to do this is to copy the project and then change the root folder name on the copy. Then just open copy as a new project in Android Studio.

We assume that you have completed installation process of Eclipse or Android Studio described in a previous lesson. So now just start the tool and follow a few steps to create a new app project.
Step 1: Choose New Project in Welcome screen of Android Studio (in Eclipse you have to choose File | New | Android Application Project from menu).
Step 2: Now you see scary screen with many options. Fortunately, we could ignore all of them (though one day we will try to understand them). You could just click Next.
But if you wish, you could change name of your app in the first field called Application name (in Eclipse you have to think of some name, because it’s empty on start). Our app would be called My First Android App. Moreover there is a red warning related to Package name (it includes “example” word just for… example). Package name is a unique identifier of your app – none other app in the world should have identical package name when you want to make it public, but for learning purposes you could leave it as it is now. The standard way of naming packages is a reverse name of your website and the app name (like com.android4beginners.myfirstandroidapp), but it doesn’t have to be related to a real website. Click Next.
The app name is visible for users. Below you see warning about package name (Package Name Warning (Android Studio New Project)
Package Name is a unique identifier of your app (Android Studio New Project)
Step 3: On this screen you could change your app icon, but it’s not crucial at the moment. Click Next.
You could change the icon for your app, but it would be important when you start developing real apps (android Studio New Project).
Step 4: The marked option (Blank activity) is the one we want. Click Next.
We start with an empty (blank) app so we will create almost everything on our own. Android Studio New Project.
Step 5: And this is the final screen – again don’t change anything. Just click Finish and wait (be aware that it could last quite long at the first time as some extra components are downloaded, but later it starts much faster – if it takes too long, you could close the program and try again). You need an active Internet connection, otherwise you will see the error. In Eclipse everything is ready at once.
These are the names of your project files – leave them as they are now (Android Studio New Project)
After configuring New Project, Android Studio has to download and install Gradle (tool for project building) – you need Internet connection for this – otherwise you would face an error.

In the next lesson we will guide you through the project/app you have just created.
